Our Projects
Nkhoma Hospital, Malawi
Founded in 1915 by Presbyterian missionaries, Nkhoma is one of the oldest hospitals in Africa.
Thanks to the support AMH (African Mission and Healthcare), Nkhoma Hospital was selected as the site of a teaching hospital to train much needed African medical workers to serve the population. There are talented young Africans who have the potential of becoming medical leaders on the continent. Unfortunately, training opportunities are limited. Over the next few years, this will change as Nkhoma becomes a teaching hospital for the region. Mission hospitals are in a strong position to train African health workers thanks to functional systems, experienced missionary and African faculty, and a compassionate Christian ethos.

Peru
Medical Missions has operated in the Peruvian Amazon since 1998. Our Mission Campus, located in the center of the Amazon port city of Iquitos, encompasses a city block and includes a guest house, a church, and a Christian education/resource building. We have also constructed four schools for children with intellectual and physical disabilities. Two are in located in the city of Iquitos; one at our mission hub in Nauta, a smaller city located 60 miles south of Iquitos along the Maranon River, which is accessible by road; and the other at our mission hub in Tamshiyacu, a more remote village located south of the city along the Amazon River, which is accessible only by boat. In addition, Medical Missions has constructed nine churches, two clinics, a preschool, ten wells and several pastors’ houses in the region.

Chiapas, Mexico
MMI continues to work with nine churches in Palenque, all of which date back to Presbyterian missions that first came to Chiapas in the 1920s and expanded into Maya regions in the 1950s. All nine are thriving, tithing congregations. As part of our mission to address the spiritual needs of the residents of Palenque, MMI developed a strategic plan in 2014 to identify church needs with leaders of each congregation. Since then MMI, working with Lake Murray(SC), Fountain Inn(SC), Goldsboro(NC), Independent(AL), Falls Church (VA), Eastminster (SC), and First Scots (SC) Presbyterian churches completed the fellowship hall and continue with the construction of the sanctuary in Francisco (Pancho) Villa, completed construction of the new Sunday School rooms at Ruiz Cortinez, completed all of the sanctuary in Macedonia and the new kitchen and bathrooms for the church in Delicias, completed the fellowship hall in Rubi-Tulija and Aguas Manantiales. The preschool children's learning center has begun in Nuevo Sonora. They are learning to write and a school-age group is learning to play the guitar. A new doorway and entrance has been added to Jesus de Nazareth church in el Rubi. Construction also began on the new church at Chankala-Zapote and the fellowship hall and kitchen in Nuevo Sonora. MMI’s efforts in Palenque continue to help spread the Gospel and enable its thriving congregations to continue to grow. MMI’s program in Chiapas builds on 27-years of successful partnerships with local communities to establish self-sustaining churches, clinics, and schools and will help Cho’l and Tzeltal communities better meet their members spiritual, educational, and medical needs in the years ahead. We are thankful for the partnership your congregation has with the local community and the time and resources you have contributed to our work in Chiapas.
